How do you become a member of one of Motion Mania's Youth Companies?
MMDC holds company auditions in August/September for all companies.
What do you do at the Audition?
The audition is conducted like a dance class. We start with a ballet barre, followed by across-the-floor, and then students are taught a short piece of choreography.
What type of dance education should I have to prepare for the Company?
Each company represents different levels.
- Diamond members need to be at an advanced jazz and ballet level prior to auditioning and be between the ages of 14 -18.
- Ruby members need to be at an intermediate jazz and ballet level prior to auditioning and be between the ages of 11-13.
- Emeralds should be in at an advanced-intermediate level in ballet and jazz and be 13-17 years old.
- Those auditioning for the Pearls should have taken jazz for at least two years, have recently completed a full year of ballet training, and be between the ages of 8-10.
What is my commitment?
Company members have to be on the Unlimited Program. Company members are required to take a mandatory amount of dance classes per week:
-
Diamonds, Emeralds and Rubies have 5 mandatory classes , plus rehearsal);
-
Pearls( 3 classes, plus rehearsal).
-
Shows are usually on weekends throughout the early fall and spring. The company occasionally performs either in Disney World or at the Beach (Va. or Ocean City) sometime during the summer.
-
MMDC Youth Companies also perform locally for civic groups, schools and assisted living facilities. Members earn their community service credits by doing so. Each county requires community service hours for graduation from High School.
